July 23rd, 2011 - PDP at The Weird West Saloon!
" Following the tremendous success of the Clockwork Carnival, The Artifice Club is pleased to announce its Summer event, The Weird West Saloon, to be held Saturday July 23, 2011 at the Solarium in Oakhurst – a neighborhood of Decatur, Georgia. Ride in dressed as your favorite cowboy, outlaw, gambler, saloon girl or whatever inspires the imagination. We have gotten all fancy this time with indoor plumbing and icebox air. For those who want to get started early, come out to the Friday Night Roundup, July 22nd, starting in the Oakhurst Square at 8 p.m. With plenty of fine eateries and saloons to partake of, come out and mix and mingle with friends old and new, and meet the locals.
The Weird West Saloon, as the name implies, takes inspiration from the speculative fiction of the American West and transforms it into a Steampunk wonderland, compliments of Penny Dreadful Productions. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. when the Trading Post Market opens for business. Artists, photographers, fabricators and other vendors will offer their wares in a setting reminiscent of an old-time general store. Admission to the Trading Post is free to the public.
At 7 p.m., the doors open for ticketholders. The evening's main attraction features the swinging hot jazz sounds of the local musical sensation, Blair Crimmins and the Hookers, sure to send any barroom regular’s toes tapping to the Dixieland beat. Talloolah Love and Her Saloon Girls follow with a burlesque performance sure to please the assembled outlaws, gamblers and gold miners. The Saloon's sheriff, the incomparable MC and comedienne Sabrina Pandora, is sure to keep the peace for the night as the evening is rounded out by Doctor Q and DJ Swivel spinning an eclectic mix that will set the ladies and their gentlemen admirers to dancing. The doors close at midnight, but the party doesn't stop – it just moves next door to McGowan's Oakhurst Pub, serving the finest craft beers and tastiest pub grub in the area.
Throughout the night, patrons may participate in a charity casino featuring blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em and roulette. In addition, those not interested in gambling can take part in a charity “Maverick Shootout” Quick Draw tournament. Prizes will be awarded for both events, and proceeds benefit Dream Power Therapeutic Equestrian Center, sponsored byVONschmalhausen. "
